BANDING BIRDS

The Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, the Division of Wildlife-Watchable Wildlife and the Grand Valley Audubon Society for six weeks in the spring and fall during migration bands songbirds.

Schools from surrounding area are invited to the Audubon Nature Center to observe the banding of these migrates.  The program is very popular with the fifth grade classes, teachers and parents. The students are allowed to touch the birds and then take turns releasing them back into the wild.

The fall of 2003 over 900 students attended the fieldtrips. More students could have attended but the funding ran out before the demand could be met.

All photographs were taken by Glen Giroir an employee of RMBO and licensed bird bander. To view the pictures in larger size just click on the picture. These pictures are copyrighted and can be used with permission by calling Glen at 970-256-9572. Enjoy!
