This is a new kind of birding adventure.  The goal will be to identify and flesh-out as many techniques as possible that birders use to find and identify birds.  As we proceed we'll volunteer ideas on how to carry on and whenever anyone recognizes a technique, they'll write it down.  All will do the same, experts and beginners alike.  At the end, a volunteer will take the notes home and put them down into a coherent techniques list then send it to all participants to certify and to polish the results.  The eventual goal is to produce a little "Grand Valley Audubon Birding Techniques Manual".  If you are interested in learning and contributing to this interesting exploration we would welcome your participation.  We want all birding levels to join in, i.e. experts, as well as beginners.

We have arranged for two groups of 10 to participate on the float.  While one group is on the boat the other group would be on-shore looking for non-shorebird species.  On a first-come first-served basis (The first float will be filled first) we would have space for 10 on each float plus the boat owner and the trip leader.

Difficulty Scale

Some people have asked how difficult the terrain might be to negotiate on some our Field Trips. Therefore we have added a difficulty scale and a number will be assigned to each trip under the column: Diff Scale

Difficulty Levels 1 through 3

1

Most of trip is within easy access to the car and/or walking on level ground of one mile or less.

2

Trip may involve walking on uneven ground over distances of 1-2 miles.

3

Trip may involve elevation change, uneven ground, and/or distances of greater than 2 miles.
